Provincial Referee Exam

To be eligible to sit your provincial referee exam you must be nominated by your local association, or self-nominated and supported by your local association. 

You must: 

  • Be a member of your local association and NZPF 

  • Intend to be an active referee

The exam consists of an online theory test, and a practical component. 

Online theory test: 

  • Hosted en masse 2-3x a year in line with regional competitions 

  • Preceded by an online workshop on the technical rules by a highly ranked NZPF referee 

  • Pass mark is 90% 

In the case of failing the theory test, candidates can re-sit in the next intake. No immediate re-sits. 

Practical component: 

  • Side referee at a local competition 

  • Local referee rep and/or local body president will loosely observe. Any causes for concern will be reported back to the RDOs
