To maintain status as a provincial referee, one must serve at least one full session as an in-chair referee (not including TC) at an NZPF affiliated meet per year (from the date they sat their exam). The session they used to sit their exam will NOT count towards this. If this should lapse, the referee can sit the theory portion of the exam again to re-qualify.
Based on the above, we will encourage local associations to prioritise using their provincial referees for regional level meets and below.
To maintain status as a national referee, one must serve at least one full session as an in-chair referee (not including TC) at an NZPF national championships every two years. For national referees who become inactive, they will need to resit the national theory exam ahead of sitting in the chair.
For both provincial and national referees, upon their referee status becoming inactive, they have 1 year to complete the outlined processes above to re qualify. Failure to do so will result in that individual being removed entirely as a referee and having to re-complete the qualification process from provincial referee.
