National Executive Committee
As per the constitution:
12.1 The NEC shall comprise the following persons:
- The Officers; and
- One delegate from each Affiliated Organisation whose appointment shall be confirmed in writing by the president of the relevant Affiliated Organisation (Delegate). The NEC shall in its absolute discretion approve or not approve a delegate nominated by an Affiliated Organisation. Each Delegate shall be nominated by the relevant Affiliated Organisations each year, following the AGM.
12.2 The NEC will consist of:
- 11 elected members; and
- Any number of appointed members the NEC thinks necessary for the operations of the Federation.
Elected positions
These officers must be elected at the New Zealand Powerlifting Federation Annual General Meeting
President
Responsibilities as per the constitution:
“8.1 The role of the President is to engage in activities agreed with the NEC which may include activities to promote the Federation, to promote good relations and communications between members, to promote the reputation and best interests of the Federation, and to preside at Federation events.”
Secretary
Responsibilities as per the constitution:
“9.1 The secretary shall:
(a) attend all meetings of the NEC;
(b) keep a true and proper record of the affairs of the Federation and shall keep the minutes
of all meetings of the Federation;
(c) conduct all general correspondence and keep copies of such correspondence and
generally perform all the clerical work of the Federation;
(d) maintain a role of all members of the Federation in accordance with clause 4.7;
(e) give notice of all meetings and send out to all Affiliated Organisations within one month of
NEC meetings copies of the minutes thereof.”
Treasurer
Responsibilities as per the constitution:
“10.1 The Treasurer must receive all subscriptions and other money payable to or receivable by the Federation.
10.2 The Treasurer shall keep the books and accounts of the Federation and pay all accounts approved by the Federation or NEC and render such financial statements as the Federation or NEC may require.
10.3 The Treasurer must invest all funds of the Federation as directed by the NEC.”
North Island Vice President/South Island Vice President
The role of an Island Vice President is to:
- Support the President, including chairing meetings of the NEC in the absence of a President;
- Assist the effective running of the NEC and any necessary sub-committees to ensure smooth operation and alignment of those sub-committees with the overall direction of the NEC
- Promote effective planning, decision-making and accountability of the NEC;
- Represent the NZPF externally as needed/ authorised by the NEC to promote the NZPF’s vision and goals;
- Support the NEC through knowledge-sharing, leadership and motivation.
Association Delegates
A delegate is elected or appointed by each regional association’s committee to represent the association’s interests on the NEC. The delegate is responsible for:
- Giving thoughtful and timely consideration to matters presented to the NEC.
- Where necessary, voting on these matters in alignment with their association’s values and goals.
- Communicating relevant information from the NEC to their regional association committee and vice versa.
- Communicating to the NZPF Secretary when there are changes in personnel or contact information.
Appointed positions
Sport Integrity NZ Liaison
The Sports Integrity NZ (SINZ) Liaison is responsible for ensuring NZPF athletes are supported in understanding and complying with anti-doping regulations and facilitates communication between NZPF and SINZ. Their responsibilities include:
- Act as a resource for athletes seeking clarification on anti-doping rules, procedures and processes.
- Deliver and support education initiatives to ensure athletes understand their obligations under the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code.
- Disseminate updates and changes to anti-doping regulations in a timely and accessible manner.
- Liaise with SINZ to coordinate in-competition and out-of-competition testing.
- Advocate for robust and fair testing practices across all levels of competition.
- Assist SINZ with investigations involving NZPF athletes, ensuring cooperation and transparency.
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity throughout investigative processes.
- Act as the NZPF representative in legal proceedings following a failed drug test.
- Collaborate with legal counsel and relevant authorities to ensure fair and informed representation of the athlete and NZPF.
Sponsorship and Partnerships Manager
This role is responsible for:
- Building relationships with commercial and community organisations in Aotearoa to support NZPF funding.
- Identifying grant/community funding opportunities.
- Developing sponsorship collateral.
- Coordinating with the NEC to deliver partner outcomes.
Coaching commission
The coaching commission is a team of members responsible for:
- Creating selection criteria for international coaches
- Nominating the coaching team for Worlds and other international meets (final approval to be given by the NEC)
- Seeking and allocating funding for NZPF coaches
- Overseeing the development of our talent pipeline for coaching including creation and socialisation of a national coaching course

Special Olympics Liaison
This role is held by a member of the Special Olympics organisation. They are responsible for:
- Representing the Special Olympics in NEC discussions and decision-making.
- Communication between the NZPF and the Special Olympics.
Junior Liaison
This role is responsible for:
- Representing Junior and Sub-Junior lifter’s interests in NEC discussions and decision-making
- Supporting Junior and Sub-Junior lifters with advice and guidance, referring matters up to the NEC or other groups as appropriate.
- Providing Junior and Sub-Junior lifters with a dedicated pathway to engage with the NZPF if necessary.
Master Liaison
This role is responsible for:
- Representing Masters lifter’s interests in NEC discussions and decision-making
- Supporting Masters lifters with advice and guidance, referring matters up to the NEC or other groups as appropriate.
- Providing Masters lifters with a dedicated pathway to engage with the NZPF if necessary.
Bench-Only Liaison
This role is responsible for:
- Representing Bench-Only lifter’s interests in NEC discussions and decision-making.
- Supporting Bench-Only lifters with advice and guidance, referring matters up to the NEC or other groups as appropriate.
- Providing Bench-Only lifters with a dedicated pathway to engage with the NZPF if necessary.
NZPF Record Keeper
This role is responsible for:
- Updating the NZPF records after national and international level competitions.
- Answering enquiries regarding national records.
- Checking the eligibility of members who are attempting to breach the records.
Sport Integrity Officer
Referee Development Officer
This role is responsible for:
- Overseeing qualification pathway for NZPF Provincial, National, and International Referees.
- Encouraging ongoing learning, with upskilling and mentorship opportunities.
- Maintain current rules interpretations for NZPF referees in consultation with senior referees and the IPF Technical Committee if required.
- Maintaining an up to date referee log, ensuring referees meet registration requirements
NZPF Webmaster
- Maintain accurate contact list on website
- Update records on website when received from record manager
- Send site alert news notifications to members as required
- General website management and other miscellaneous updates
NZPF Social Media Manager
- Manage the NZPF Facebook and Instagram accounts, including replying to and overseeing direct messages.
- Create and design posts for yearly calendars, event reminders, application deadlines, scholarship announcements, and on-demand updates using graphic design ensuring posts are clear and aligned with NZPF branding.
- Post international team announcements by contacting athletes for images, designing posts, and collecting competition timetables.
